dc.description.abstractBackground: The eating habits determines the nutritional status of students because most of them for lack of time consuming fast food (junk) which may be aggravated by the lack of economic resources, leading to poor nutrition not it is suitable for optimal student or various activities in which they operate performance. Objective: To assess the nutritional status with the eating habits of the students of the School of Nursing at the University of Cuenca, 2014 Methodology: A quantitative descriptive study. The sample consisted of 376 students (according to formula), and subjects were professional career (General Nursing, Clinical-Surgica l - II, Pediatrics and Obstetrics). The information was collected at 77 students for each subject by: Form Survey "Food Recall 24 hours" modified; measurement of anthropometric measures, and analysis of body mass index. The data were, analyzed and tabulated using Microsoft Office programs Excel and SPSS. Results: All nutritional disorders (moderate thinness with 0.53%, 2.39% acceptable thinness with normal 68.88%, 42.87% overweight, obesity I with 4.78%, 0.26% obesity II and III obesity 0.26%) seen more in teenagers , youth and young adults, ranging from 18 to 30 years of age and was higher in females than in males. Overweight was more relevant to students living in urban areas, with a sedentary lifestyle, improper diet low physical activity in rural areas. The obese group I, II and III consume more foods daily recommended nutritional mainly pyramid: carbohydrates, cereals, pasta, vegetables, oil, meat, milk and dairy junk food. Also eats less than necessary in fruits, water and breakfast. The / the students of normal weight, eat fruits, water, meat and nutritious food to maintain a balanced diet and optimal academic performance themselves who care about their health and wellbeing. Conclusion: Nutritional status and dietary habits of the / as students of the School of Nursing is marked primarily by a balanced and nutritious diet, they who eat foods that are within the food pyramid sticking with an index of normal weight thus obtaining an optimal intellectual development.
