dc.description.abstractWhen investigating the lipid profile (cholesterol and triglycerides) of the dogs, with a presumptive diagnosis of endocrine diseases, it was possible to verify that there are mostly cases of hyperlipidemia, this being the reason why a lipid analysis should be performed prior to a Hormone examination Objectives: To evaluate the lipid profile in 60 canine patients with dermatopathies and clinical manifestations of endocrine diseases, without distinction of sex, race, ages 4 to 12 years, divided into three groups, 20 apparently healthy patients, 20 patients with alopecia and 20 patients with hyperkeratosis, of which 40 patients with alopecia and hyperkeratosis presented clinical signs of endocrine diseases (hyperadrenocortis, hypothyroidism, diabetes mellitus) such as polyuria, polydipsia, lethargy and obesity in an indistinct manner. Results: Patients with hyperkeratosis have a higher percentage of manifestations of endocrine signs, such as polyuria 75%, lethargy 75%, obesity 50% and polydipsia in 40%, in relation to patients with alopecia and apparently healthy. When evaluating serum cholesterol levels, it was observed that dogs with alopecia have a statistically significant difference with the control patients, but there is no significant difference with dogs that presented hyperkeratosis. When evaluating the serum levels of triglycerides, it was observed that dogs with alopecia have a statistically significant difference in relation to the control patients, but there is no significant difference with dogs that presented hyperkeratosis.Conclusion: Hypercholesterolemia is an indicative parameter in a previous examination to a disease of endocrine origin, but not hypertriglyceridemia.
