Inspección de seguridad vial de la vía Riobamba – Chambo

Abstract

The present study consists in the application of a Road Safety Inspection along the Riobamba - Chambo road, province of Chimborazo, through the evaluation of geometric characteristics of road safety standards in order to determine the level of compliance according to the current regulations in the country. Some road safety problems were detected through the direct observation and on-site inspections along 5.3 km of study. With the assistance of checklists, some aspects were registered such as: visibility, speed, width, slopes, running surface, drainage systems, pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists, public transport, horizontal and vertical signaling, lighting, intersections and so forth, which allowed to evaluate the current situation of the geometric characteristics of the road; and through the analysis of accidents that happened in recent years, the following critical aspects were determined: La Inmaculada neighborhood, Rural Zone, causing human and material losses generating a negative social impact. The proposal was formulated based on Ecuadorian standards Nevi-12, volume 6 of road maintenance, with the following parameters: perform asphalt maintenance on the road surface to replace deteriorated areas, drain and ditches cleaning , placement of horizontal and vertical signage, clearing of vegetation to increase visibility distances and thus guarantee a safe and efficient road system to users. It is concluded that the road shows damages in its infrastructure that affect the safe mobility of users, so that the Gobierno Autónomo Descentralizado of Chimborazo (GAD) is recommended to apply alternative solutions detailed in this study.
