Diseño de zonas escolares seguras para instituciones educativas. Caso cantón San Miguel, provincia de Bolívar

Abstract

The degree work aimed to design safe school zones for educational institutions in the canton of San Miguel, province of Bolívar, through a diagnosis of the current situation of mobility in the surroundings of educational centers with a focus on the parameters of road infrastructure, signage and parking lots. Surveys and observation cards were used to collect information, the same research instruments helped to know the perception of students, teachers, and parents about road safety. On the other hand, it was established, regarding road infrastructure, that the sidewalk width varies between 0.86 m - 2.31 m, the track width varies between 5.26 m - 9.4 m, the tread layer it is 83.33% paved and 16.67% paved. The vertical and horizontal signage was scarce because there are between 0 and 2 signs in each institution. In addition, it was established: roadway solutions, that is, 1 patching, 6 sewer cleanings, 5 road maintenance, 1 sewer cover replacement and 1 bedding maintenance. The conclusion is to place 90 vertical signs, 166 horizontal signs, and 112 parking spaces globally. The road safety training plan was aimed at students, parents, and teachers of the different educational institutions with pertinent approaches for each group. It is recommended to the Municipal Decentralized Autonomous Government of the Canton San Miguel together with the educational institutions to take into consideration the design of safe school zones, which will allow us to increase the road safety indexes in the city.
