In this study, the capacity of isolated Chlorophyta algae from Limoncocha lagoon to remove organic matter in wastewater from the Shushufindi municipal slaughterhouse (Province of Sucumbios – Ecuador) was evaluated. Six different treatments of 1.8 L, with five replicates each, were applied in a tubular photobioreactor. The treatments aimed at assessing algae growth consisted of using of Nitrofoska foliar culture medium, with and without aeration; while for the organic matter reduction tests, four treatments were applied at a 1:3 dilution of the litter wastewater: two experimental units inoculated with Chlorophyta algae, one with aeration and one without aeration; and two experimental units without algae inoculation, with and without aeration. The photoperiod was 12 hours at 22.38°C and a pH value of 8.45. The most efficient treatment for the BOD5 (83.1%), phosphate (58.9%), and total Kjeldahl nitrogen (63.1%) removal was the aerated cultivation of Chlorophyta algae in diluted bed wastewater, showing higher cell productivity (41944 cells/L/day) compared to the growth in the culture medium. The most efficient sulfate removal (58.9%) was obtained by Chlorophyta algae cul- ture in diluted, non-aerated, farmyard wastewater.
