The objective was to design a pharmacovigilance protocol in acute respiratory infections aimed at the pediatric population of the type B health center in Guano, Chimborazo province. A retrospective study of medical records conducted in June, July, and August 2019.The study was based on the analysis of the diagnosis, weight, age, sex, pharmacotherapy, concentrations, days of treatment, which the doctor prescribed, the ages that were taken into account for said inspection were children between 0 and 9 years of age, in which the predominant pathologies, which are acute respiratory infections, were determined. Of the 115 medical records reviewed, 38% were from tonsillitis, and 62% were for other respiratory infections, children with a prevalence of respiratory infections under 5 years of age. Validation of medical records showed that the pediatric population served in that health home has a high rate of problems related to respiratory system infections, so there was a need to urgently design a pharmacovigilance protocol so that health personnel avoid or reduce drug-related problems and thus ensure the health of pediatric patients. Through the correct, logical, and appropriate use of medicines, medicines can be treated more efficiently and with a minimum margin of error by optimizing the therapeutic effect and reducing the undesired effects of medicines. Besides, the Guano-Penipe District Directorate and the Decentralized Autonomous Government of the Guano Canton recommended to socialize these results, to avoid events harmful to the pediatric population attending this health center.
