dc.description.abstractThe aim of the research was to design a management model for handling hazardous waste generated in the laboratories of the natural resources faculty; for this, it was possible to count with the cooperation of the teaching technicians and based on the registered information, the data on the amount of hazardous waste generated in each of the laboratories were obtained. In addition, by means of interviews applied for the teaching technicians, it was possible to verify the information previously obtained; as the waste was characterized, it was evidenced that the hazardous waste generated in large amounts is the organic waste. some surveys were applied for the students of this faculty since they use the different laboratories, in this way it was possible to know the reality regarding the handling of hazardous waste by the students, which was the cause for the study. Per-capita production was also determined, where 0.1kg of waste per student a day was obtained during september 2019-february 2020 academic period. As a result of the waste characterization, it was obtained that the hazardous waste generated in large amounts is the organic waste like: culture media as well as animal and plant samples. it is concluded that by designing this manual, an adequate management of hazardous waste generated in the laboratories of the natural resources faculty can be provided and thus improve and adapt its correct final disposal in order to minimize the environmental impact this waste generates; in this way, the health of the people who work and handle hazardous waste will be guaranteed. it is recommended to establish agreements with the municipality of riobamba for the right handling, transportation and final disposal of hazardous waste.
