dc.description.abstractIn the present research work, was studied to obtain and characterise of metallic foams of open-cell aluminium for impact energy absorption applications in the automotive field was carried out. The sampling was carried out in the laboratory of the School of Automotive Engineering, in the Escuela Superior Politécnica de Chimborazo , in the development we proceed with the sizing and determination of the technical parameters of the elements that will make up the equipment, and with the selection and acquisition of equipment and materials, to carry out the assembly of the elements; that will conform the equipment, in this the respective tests of operation of the equipment must be performed. To obtain the open cell metal foams, we work with grains of sodium chloride and aluminium, making 4 samples in which the morphological characterization is carried out by determining: ligament shape, relative density, observed isotropy, size of pore, poly dispersion, percentage of open cells and mechanical characterization by means of the compression test. The results of the porosity values are in sample 2 at 66.35% and in sample 4 a value of 53.8%, which identifies that the porosity is relatively high, but its relative density is not so low a factor that determines the Porosity of the metallic foam is the amount of NaCl, which increases its size or reduces the density depending on the amount used, hence the variation in the porosity of samples 2 and 4 of the metallic foam. The implementation of the project in automotive industries is recommended knowing that it is a technological contribution and is profitable respectively.
