The objective was to implement a I-131 assessment method incorporated to the Occupationally Exposed Personnel (POE) of the Nuclear Medicine Department of the Carlos Andrade Marín Hospital, by means of the internal dosimetry with the H3000WW INFINIA HAWKEYE GP3 Gammacámara. The Gammacámara was characterized with tests of quality controls obtaining its calibration factor with the thyroid neck phantom, the calibration for each detector was performed in efficiency, the geometry of the stretcher determined by the Captus gamma spectrometer and a point source of Ba-133 corrected activity of 116014.188 Bq of the Center for Protection and Hygiene of the radiations (CPHR) a different distance from the phantom where it is established that the optimal distance is 20 cm, with a measurement time of 900 seconds, an energy window of ( 15 %)+ centered on the main peak of I-131 (364 keV) and Minimum Detectable Activity (AMD) of 290 and 279 Bq for each detector respectively. Ten point sources of I-131 were designed and elaborated with activities between 0.09-300 microcurie which were quantified with the Captus and the Gammacámara for later make a referential measurement traceability. The result show that the method is valid, since the limit of incorporation is 1818181.82 Bq, the research level is 41666.67 Bq and the registry is 8333.33 Bq, therefore, the criteria established for implementation comply with the international regulations of the International Commission on Radiological Protection (ICPR) 78 and the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) publications RS-G-1.2. This study contributes to improve occupational radiological protection in nuclear medicine services, based on the results of this work, it is recommended to perform calibration for indirect methods of internal dosimetry.
