The misalignment and increase of the energetic intake to extract an empiric math model was developed through experimental observations, in order to quantify the energetic loss and prove the economic impact on misalignment towards energetic intake. The engine used was one of 3, 7 kW power, with rotation speed of 1710 rpm and constant loading of 3,021 kW, getting 81,67% from nominal loading. First the electric engine was aligned with the power unit by using a millimeter precision table, and then the levels of misalignment were tested as well, having an interval from 0, 1 mm to 1mm in parallel misalignment and 17,45 milliradians of angular misalignment using the flexible coupling and from 1 mm to 8,57 milliradians using rigid coupling. The power intake measurements were obtained by means of the energy quality analyzer Fluke 435 II. The mechanic vibration was higher when using a rigid coupling, and so a higher power intake. The relationship between dependent and independent variables was linear and the data dispersion regarding to the tendency line was developed by using the Pearson “r” statistic, resulting meaningful at 1%. The mechanic vibrations and power intake were higher when using a rigid coupling thus the flexible coupling absorbed the vibrations used in most of industrial applications. All in all the awareness of failures provoked by misalignments will help to make decisions and keep the machines efficiently working.
