dc.description.abstractThe purpose of this work is to redesign a water treatment plant in the Totoras parish belonging to the province of Tungurahua, with the main purpose of minimizing the environmental impact caused by the Palahua tannery. To carry out the following research, an experimental method was used and a sample was taken of the water discharged by the company. Subsequently, a characterization test is carried out. After the analysis, establish the appropriate variables for the redesign: (pH, temperature, sulfates, sulfides, oxygen, sedimentable solids, suspended solids whose parameters are outside the limits of the established environmental quality regulations). In order to eliminate the greatest amount of pollutants, the water effluents from the industry were characterized, with this developed by physical and chemical methods in the laboratory, to finalize the methodology the wastewater plant was redesigned. The efficiency of the designed system is promising and it is necessary to mention that the process will ensure the treatment of the water, which complies with the established environmental standards and avoids the contamination of the city, its surroundings, the notable impact on the environment. It is not only intended to improve the water system but also the benefit and cost ratio. The continuous review of process equipment and periodic analysis of the discharge water and treated water is recommended to define if it is necessary to modify the treatment process, be it reduction or increase of chemical flows or implementation of a new stage within the system.
