The objective of the present titling work was to determine the photoprotective activity and safety in the hydroalcoholic extracts of Bidens andicola (Ñachag) and Passiflora quadrangularis (Badea). The quality control of the plant drug and the phytochemical screening were carried out, this evidenced the presence of secondary metabolites such as phenols and flavonoids. The Sun Protection Factor (SPF) was determined by the spectrophotometric method and applying the Mansur equation, obtaining the FPS value of 30 for the Passiflora quadrangularis extract and 32 for the Bidens andicola extract, prepared at a concentration of 2000ppm. The content of phenols for B. andicola and P. quadrangularis was 137,40 ± 0,08 and 142,77 ± 0,0 mg equivalents of Gallic Acid/g of plant respectively, in the case of the content of flavonoids, it was obtained 87,716 ± 0,40 and 13,98 ± 0,2 mg equivalents of quercetin/g of plant respectively. The safety of the extracts was evaluated by genotoxicity tests using the roots of Vicia faba var. minor evidencing that none of the extracts produces any inhibition of mitosis or the formation of micronuclei, in addition to this the degree of hidden irritation was determined using the HET CAM and CAM-TBS tests in which a classification was obtained of the extracts tested of Bidens andicola and Passiflora quadangularis, as Non-Irritant.
