This research aims to evaluate the in vitro anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activity of the hydro alcoholic extract obtained from the aerial portion of Ageratum conyzoides L. For which quality parameters were determined, not only the crude drug but also the hydro alcoholic extract. Subsequently, a phytochemical analysis was performed to identify the most representative secondary metabolites of this plant species. Using UV-Vis spectrophotometry, phenolic and flavonoid compounds were analyzed quantitatively in the lyophilized hydro-alcoholic extract. In addition, the antioxidant activity is evaluated by the colorimetric method based on free radical uptake (DPPH). Finally, for the evaluation of the anti-inflammatory and cytotoxic activity it is a colorimetric reaction caused by a tetrazolium salt (WST-1) that is reduced to a form in the presence of neutrals, the results obtained in the phytochemical screening of the aerial part of Ageratum conyzoides identified the presence of alkaloids, phenols, flavonoids, tannins, coumarins, catechins, amino acids, triterpenes and fatty compounds. The amount of total phenols of the lyophilized hydro-alcoholic extract was 24.13±0.76% while for total flavonoids it was 6.14±0.08%. The capacity to eliminate DPPH free radicals was 21.09% at the maximum concentration of 1000 µg/mL. At the concentration of 2000 µg/mL of the lyophilized hydro-alcoholic extract, there is a high percentage of inflammatory inhibition, which was 88.03±0.11% and a cell viability of 51,89±1.56% with respect to acetylsalicylic acid which has values of 72.89±2.77% for inflammatory inhibition and 40.93±2.01% cell viability at a concentration of 200 µg/mL.
