Abstract

Ecuador is a small country compared to the others, but that does not mean that it is not full of talent and great musicians because its great virtues are culture and tradition, for this reason it also has not only one but several references that promote national identity; in this case, the investigation will focus on the musician Gerardo Guevara Viteri, a composer from Quito who, as his story tells, was born in the conservatory, since he was a child he wandered through the corridors listening to the music instruments practiced. He considers himself a man with a lot of luck, although he was a young man of limited resources, he was able to travel to France and live most of his life in that country, learning from the best composers of the 20th century and then becoming an ingenious musician with a luminous career that has been representing Ecuador in all these years. Gerardo Guevara, born in Quito in the year 1930, is one of the most important and emblematic musical exponents of classical music, cultured or elaborated that existed in Ecuador and that until now is still present in the country giving him honors and awards thanks to their great achievements that only few composers have achieved due to the complexity of producing a symphonic composition. His artistic life started from his youth where he was passionate about the beautiful and magical melodies of the instruments, his almost 60 years of musical career is the reason why in this research he is considered a reference of the Ecuadorian identity and worthy of having the need to promote their art to Ecuadorian youth.
