The Simulink tool of the Matlab software is used to simulate the IEEE 9 bus system at a 13.8 KV level, replacing the linear loads of busbars 5 and 6 with non-linear ones so that harmonics are generated in the network, which produces a distortion in the current waves, so to reduce this wave distortion, a reactive compensator called DSTATCOM will be added to the system, which will be previously dimensioned to satisfy the total reactive demand produced by these harmonic currents. The DSTATCOM will be controlled by the IGBT's triggers through a hysteresis band control that will use the PQ instantaneous power theory to be able to separate the reactive power that is generated by the harmonics from that generated by the impedances of the lines, transformers and other common elements that comprise a power system.
