This article evaluates different compensation techniques for active (distributed generation) and reactive (capacitors) powers, in order to minimize losses in an electrical distribution system. A methodology is established to calculate in a multi-objective way, through power flows, the optimal scenario that has the minimum of power losses at the lowest possible cost. The optimization algorithm that was applied minimizes objective functions of power losses and costs, which is associated with power balance restrictions, and various theoretical limits in terms of quality and energy efficiency for different compensation scenarios. In this way, the algorithm establishes a decision matrix that allows finding which scenario is the most optimal to use. For the modeling of this problem, the IEEE 69 busbar radial distribution system (RDN) will be used. For the implementation of the optimization algorithm and description of the results of power losses, voltage profiles, power factors, and costs, the Matlab and MatPower software were used.
