Abstract

The cooperation and the treaties with China were the most important features of the last administration of Eco. Rafael Correa. During this time, it was evidenced that the Asian giant had a high participation in the strategic sectors of the country, such as hydroelectric, mining, oil exploitation, road construction, and even security. This made it Ecuador's main creditor. One of the most outstanding participations of China was in the Coca-Codo Sinclair hydroelectric project, which turned out to be the most expensive project in the history of Ecuador. It is for this reason that the present work is elaborated with the purpose of analyzing the influence and participation of China in the construction of the eight hydroelectric power stations offered by the previous government, and the effectiveness of them. In addition, the deficiency of infrastructure management by Chinese companies in Ecuador is determined, and the economic, financial, and social impacts generated by the construction of hydroelectric plants financed mainly by Chinese capital are identified.
