The SARS-CoV-2 virus pandemic has interrupted the daily life of millions of people around the world, thus affecting both physical and mental health and the teaching-learning processes within the university environment. This bibliographic review is located within the non-experimental design methodology with a hermeneutic phenomenological approach; thus, the objective of this research is to publicize the socio-emotional impact caused by the pandemic in university students, describing the emotional and social consequences. Finally, it was concluded that for many of the university students this disease has had a great negative socio-emotional impact that is reflected in anxiety, stress, depression, uncertainty, and fear, caused by compulsory confinement, social isolation, change of study modality (face-to-face – virtual) and unusual coexistence with the family circle. The findings of this study reinforce the need to implement psychological interventions aimed at favoring emotional education, promoting coping techniques in the face of crises aimed at improving the mental health of university students.
