dc.description.abstract | Psychiatric disorders have been subjects of great taboo, although today ground has been gained in terms of policies that favor people with psychiatric disorders, there is still much that remains to be done and people continue to speak from prejudice and ignorance .
The aim of this document is to expose the feelings and thoughts of a tiny population that has a psychiatric disorder, asking them about how difficult it has been for them to face stigmas in the social, labor, educational, institutional fields, how they feel about themselves themselves, and one of the most controversial, that of sexuality since if in the "normal" population it is a reason for shame or concealment to talk about this issue, if we refer to people with psychiatric disorders, it is even more so.
It has been decided to resort to narrative productions to listen to what each participant wants to describe their own history and how each experience has made them who they are today. This methodology collects the speeches of each person that will later be woven with theories of different authors and with the interpretation of the researcher.
A qualitative approach was used since what interests us is the story and the doing of the person in a social and cultural context. This has made me realize that the same culture that sometimes castrates and inhibits, is also an opportunity to meet people with a history similar to yours and share experiences.
The people who contributed their testimonies to this document have experienced stigmas in different areas of their daily lives. However, the one that stands out the most is work, since if they do not have access to a job, logically they will not be able to afford their treatments or their medicines.
Among the consequences of the aforementioned we can see dependency, low self-esteem, isolation among many others since not being able to count on economic independence, they will have to turn to relatives or close people and this can sometimes be frowned upon since they have an erroneous view that they do not get a job because they are lazy or incapable. | |
