The design of the policies of a country must assess the behavior of the main macroeconomic variables. The evolution of the productive areas in an open economy has a direct impact on the different productive activities, especially when many of them are strictly related to the international market and even more when this is characterized by a substantial degree of instability. This paper seeks to analyze and identify the impact of trade policies and international relations of Ecuador as components of the foreign policy identified in the Plan Nacional del Buen Vivir (National Plan of Good Living) that promotes the change of the productive matrix and that are also reflected in official documents.
