| dc.description | Este estudio parte de la caracterización del fenómeno del bandolerismo siciliano en la temprana Edad Moderna que la historiografía reciente nos ofrece, a partir del modelo general de bandolerismo mediterráneo, y adelanta el marco temporal de análisis hasta el final del dominio español en la isla. En concreto, el trabajo centra su interés en comprobar hasta qué punto el comportamiento del bandolerismo siciliano se ajusta al patrón de evolución del bandolerismo mediterráneo comúnmente aceptado por la historiografía, según el cual el carácter político y faccional de la actividad bandolera, vinculada a los intereses de las oligarquías –los grandes señores feudales en el caso de Sicilia–, se fue diluyendo a partir de mediados del siglo XVII, por motivos diversos relacionados con el avance del poder monárquico, para pasar a caracterizarse como una expresión de desorden social, protagonizada por miembros de los sectores más débiles y peor integrados de la sociedad con objetivos propios que no iban más allá del mero botín económico. | |
| dc.description | This article takes into consideration the characterization and evolution that historiography provides for the Sicilian banditry in 16th and 17th centuries in order to check to what extent the behaviour of the Sicilian brigandage fit the pattern of evolution of the Mediterranean banditry commonly accepted by scholarship, according to which from mid-seventeenth century onwards, banditry lost their links with the oligarchy´s political and factional interests –the great feudal lords in the case of Sicily–, to become a social phenomenon of public disorder, led by members of the weaker and worst integrated groups of society whose targets were mere economic spoils. | |
