El derecho natural y humano a defenderse, es un derecho que debe ser reconocido y respetado por el Estado y en Costa Rica, puede afirmarse que, con limitaciones impuestas por ley, constituye un derecho fundamental tutelado en la Constitución Política

The natural and human right to defense must be acknowledged and respected by the State. In Costa Rica, it can be asserted that, though with the limitations of law, this is fundamental right protected under the Constitution.
