Comentarios sobre “El Paraíso Perdido” de Rodrigo Quesada Monge

Abstract

Mediante una crítica de la llamada "nueva historia costarricense", Quesada exhorta al historiador a seguir con los intentos de diseminar su conocimiento hacia las imaginaciones populares, guiándose por una visión y manera de pensar más poética y visionaria. Insiste en la necesidad de conocer críticamente el papel político e ideológico de la historia en propagar o en sancionar los mitos.. Señala Palmer, que lo que más daña la credibilidad del ensayo de Quesada, es la selectividad y la resistencia a dar una justa representación de sus adversarios, que neutralizan la validez de sus conclusiones acerca de la supuesta enfermedad que está afligiendo a eso que llaman nueva historia.. Que más que hablar de nueva historia, habría que hablar de nuevos historiadores.

Through a critique of the so-called "new Costa Rican history", Quesada exhorts the historian to continue with the attempts to disseminate his knowledge towards popular imaginations, guided by a more poetic and visionary vision and way of thinking. He insists on the need to critically understand the political and ideological role of history in propagating or sanctioning myths. Palmer points out that what most damages the credibility of Quesada's essay is the selectivity and resistance to giving a fair representation of their adversaries, who neutralize the validity of their conclusions about the supposed disease that is afflicting what they call new history. That more than talking about new history, we should talk about new historians.
