Estudiar comercio sexual en contextos petroleros: Un ejercicio de reflexividad etnográfica

Abstract

En este trabajo propongo presentar una serie de experiencias de trabajo de campo en espacios donde se desenvuelve el comercio sexual en ciudades petroleras, con la finalidad de reflexionar sobre las dimensiones metodológicas y epistemológicas en este área de estudios. En primer lugar, haré énfasis en los sentidos y representaciones que se crean en torno a la investigación en contextos petroleros de la Patagonia Argentina ante la presunta existencia de trata de personas con fines de explotación sexual y cómo esto interpela y afecta mi presencia en el campo. Por su parte, recuperando un registro realizado en Ciudad del Carmen, México, referiré a la dimensión genérica y sexuada de la investigadora, y a los modos en que mi condición de "mujer" estructuró las formas de ingreso al campo y definió las interacciones con los/as interlocutores/as.

In this paper I present a series of field work experiences from research on commercial sex in oil industry cities, with the purpose of reflecting about the methodological and epistemological dimensions in this area of studies. Firstly, I examine the meanings and representations of oil extraction contexts in Argentine Patagonia, in the face of the alleged existence of sex trafficking in oil exploitation sites, emphasising the interpellation of danger and how this affected my presence in the field. Secondly, using one of my field work records from Ciudad del Carmen, México, I refer to the gendered and sexed dimensions of the researcher, and to the ways in which my status as a "woman" structured the forms of access to this field and defined the interactions with my interlocutors.
