Erosión hídrica costera en el Balneario Monte Hermoso, Buenos Aires, Argentina

Abstract

Actualmente el centro de la ciudad quedó fuertemente impactado por la construcción de edificios, rambla y paradores. La urbanización, sobre la línea de costa, fue obliterando el paisaje de médanos, alterando las condiciones naturales del terreno e interfiriendo sobre el escurrimiento superficial del agua. En eventos de lluvia intensa colapsan los desagües que descargan enel mar provocando inundaciones, socavones en calles sin asfalto, desestabilización-remoción de arena en la costa y profundas canalizaciones en la playa.Edificaciones y vegetación sobre los médanos cortan, localmente, la dinámica natural de la arena.También, son frecuentes ?sudestadas? y ?sudoestadas? destructivas de la infraestructura y construcciones costeras. Sinembargo, se ha demostrado que la playa tiene capacidad de recuperación en tiempos breves, luego de eventos de tormentas,que la erosionan. El Municipio ha establecido controles sobre el tránsito vehicular, la extracción de arena y construcción de paradores en la playa y la expansión urbana está siendo planificada según la legislación provincial. Los estudios realizadosen la playa de Monte Hermoso, demuestran que la misma tiene una rápida regeneración, ante eventos de tormentas marinas y de lluvia. Una ocupación del terreno criteriosa permitiría un desarrollo urbano sustentable y consistente con el principal recurso económico local, la actividad turística estival.

At the moment the downtown was strongly modified by the construction of buildings, coastal paths and beach bars. Urban projects on the coastline, where obliterating the landscape of dunes, altering the natural conditions of the soil and interfering with the natural overland flow. In heavy rain events, the drains that discharge into the sea collapse causing undermining in streets without asphalt, flooding and deep channels on the beach. Buildings and vegetation on the dunes change the natural dynamics of the sand. Also, hard winds and marine storms from southeast and southwest cause great damage on the coastal constructions and on the beach line. However, it has been shown that the beach has a capacity to recover in a short time, after storm events that erode it. The local government has established controls on vehicular traffic, sand extraction and commercial construction on the beach. The urban expansion is being planned according to provincial legislation. The studies carried out in the Monte Hermoso beach show that it has a rapid regeneration after the events of marine storms and heavy rains. A careful occupation of the land would allow a sustainable urban development consistent with the main local economic resource, the summer tourist activity.
