dc.description.abstract | Plumariidae belong to the superfamily Chrysidoidea (Hymenoptera: Aculeata). This family is distributed in arid and semiarid regions of Southern Africa and South America, being the generic diversity higher in the latter. Knowledge of this family is based mainly on males since females are rarely collected. These wasps have nocturnal habits and show extreme sexual dimorphism with apterous females and winged males. Even though the group shows few genera, it is strongly endemic in Argentina and has international interest due to the lack of knowledge of its life habits.
