| dc.description | El objetivo de este trabajo consiste en presentar una muestra de la recepción de Franz Kafka en el Río de la Plata por medio de las traducciones más destacadas del campo literario uruguayo entre 1944 y 1975. Las traducciones fundacionales de Mario Benedetti —publicadas hacia fines de los años cuarenta— abrieron un cauce de lectura divergente del abordaje formalista defendido por la crítica vernácula. Muchos años después, la traducción de La metamorfosis (1975), a cargo del escritor Héctor Galmés, propondría una revisión de Kafka y de una de las traducciones canónicas más arraigadas en la cultura rioplatense, la atribuida a Jorge Luis Borges. Hemos querido consignar la tarea de los escritores y críticos que difundieron la obra desde perspectivas estéticas e ideológicas divergentes, ampliando de forma irreversible el campo de lecturas de la cultura uruguaya. | |
| dc.description | The goal of the present work is to present a sample of Franz Kafka’s reception in the Río de la Plata region through the most prestigious translations of his work produced in the Uruguayan literary arena between 1944 and 1975. The foundational translations of Mario Benedetti—published in the late 1940s— opened up a line of reading different from the formalist approach that had been defended by vernacular criticism. Many years later, the translation of The Metamorphosis (1975) by writer Héctor Galmés would invite a revision of Kafka and of one of the most widely known translations in the culture of the Río de la Plata, the one attributed to Jorge Luis Borges. We have tried to describe the work of the writers and critics who, from different aesthetic and ideological perspectives, made the book known, widening forever the scope of literary readings in Uruguayan culture. | |
