| dc.description | El estudio de los personajes artistas en la obra de E.T.A. Hoffmann se ha centrado mayoritariamente en Fantasías a la manera de Callot (1814/1815), su primera compilación de novelas cortas, y Opiniones del gato Murr (1819/1821), su novela inconclusa; es decir, en torno a la figura del compositor Johannes Kreisler. El presente trabajo se propone analizar los caracteres artistas de los Letzte Erzählungen, aquellas novelas cortas de la producción tardía del autor que no fueron incluidas en ninguna de sus tres compilaciones (Fantasías..., Nocturnos, Los hermanos de San Serapión) y que se publicaron de manera dispersa o póstuma. Intentamos demostrar que el estilo hoffmanniano varía significativamente en estas obras con respecto a su producción anterior, que ha acaparado mayoritariamente los estudios críticos sobre este autor, y que ha configurado la imagen tradicional (muchas veces exagerada e imprecisa) del artista hoffmanniano como una personalidad genial, enfermiza y solitaria. | |

Hoffmann’s artist characters studies have been mainly focused in Fantasies in Callot’s manner (1814/1815), his first compilation of short novels, and in The life and opinions of the tomcat Murr (1819/1821), his unfinished novel; i.e. regarding the character of the compositor Johannes Kreisler. In this work we attempt to study the artist characters in the Letzte Erzählungen – those short novels from the author’s last period which were not included in any of his three compilations (Fantasies..., Nocturnes, The Serapion Brethren) and which were published dispersedly or posthumously. We try to demonstrate that, in contrast with the widespread and most accepted critical statements that describe Hoffmann’s artists (exaggeratedly and inaccurately) as sickly and lonely geniuses, the author’s latest style demands a different and more complex reading. | |
