dc.descriptionWeight and carcass dressing are important measurements in determining the productivity of an individual output in buffalo for meat. The aim of this study was to estimate carcass dressing from in vivo measurements taken by ultrasound and live weight (LW). Sixteen males buffaloes crossbreed Murrah x Mediterranean were evaluated. Animals one day pre-slaughter was taking measures of body weight (BW), rib eye area (REA), gluteus medius thickness used (GMT), backfat thickness (BFT) and rump fat thickness (RFT); and post-slaughter was taking measures hot carcass weight (HCW), cold carcass weight (CCW), cuts rear yield (CRY) and cuts front yield (CFY). Models predicting carcass characteristics from in vivo measurements selected using criteria adjusted R2 values, Mallows Cp, AIC and BIC. LW average was 509 ± 36 kg, while for ultrasound carcass measurements REA, BFT, GMT,RFT were 41.8 ± 5.22 cm², 0.41 ± 0 06 cm, 6.5 ± 0.47 cm and 0.99 ± 0.14 cm, respectively. Post-mortem carcass measurements such as HCW, CCW, CRY, CFY averages were 258 kg ± 23, 255 ± 23 kg, 117 ± 11 kg and 135 ± 12 kg, respectively. LW, REA, RFT measurements, had a good fit with a higher variability prediction of 85% for prediction models. In conclusion, the models presented in this study can predict with a high reliability carcass characteristics ​​through in vivo measurements in male buffaloes.
