Resumen
The Denver Model of Early Intervention (Early Start Denver Model / ESDM) for children with autism is a therapeutic approach that has shown great promise in the treatment of this population. The aim of this article was to conduct a systematic literature review based on international studies. This review sought to verify if there is effectiveness in reducing symptoms and learning deficient skills in children with autism. The bibliographic research used Pubmed and the Virtual Health Library (VHL) as databases, from June to July 2019. The inclusion criteria used were: articles that answered the guiding question and met the theme established by the descriptors. Studies with animals, laboratory, opinion/authority articles, case series and case report were excluded. The choice of articles was made through a protocol created for the elaboration of this study. For this, the following aspects were used: author, year, publication, hours of intervention, design, population, tests used and results. The search performed using descriptors and free terms revealed 349 articles in pre-established databases. Of the total, 267 were excluded due to the title and abstract and 74 due to the reading of the full text. This enabled the complete analysis of 08 articles. It was observed that the Denver Early Intervention Model is effective in gaining skills and reducing symptoms in children with autism, even in curricula that do not follow all the proposed reliability criteria. The review also found that children who started treatment before 30 months achieved better results in the mechanisms of adaptive behavior, cognition and development of verbal and non-verbal language.
