Resumen
This thesis investigates the role of public schools and urban spaces, socialization environments, in the constitution of multiple contemporary youth cultures to understand the ruptures and continuities between the spaces to produce subjectivities. The main theoretical studies on youth today were approached to analyze the conception attributed by young people in high school to the education institution, the schooling process, and what they perceive as important for their socialization. We explore how the spheres of sociability in which young people are inserted - school, work, cultural facilities, and leisure - are articulated and affect their school trajectories. Besides, we examine the impacts of inequalities and social processes on the school journey, as well as the links established in the different sociability spaces of young students at Public Schools in São Paulo. The investigation was based on urban anthropology and ethnographic inspiration for part of the data collection. To this end, we sought to reach the constitution of the youth condition’s interfaces, taking the urban routes of young people from 36 public schools that offer the high school in a certain region of the city of São Paulo. Initially, questionnaires were made available to young people attending the last year of high school in these institutions, which offered subsidies for the second stage of the research, guided by an ethnography regarding young students from these schools and their routes in the city, working with interviews in-depth, guided by a previous script, free conversations on the sidewalks of schools, a questionnaire application, participant observation, recording of field notes, photographic records, observation reports and meetings also in the virtual space.
