Destaca a importância e os benefícios da preservação da memória institucional, através do relato de experiência sobre o Projeto de Preservação do acervo fotográfico da Assessoria de Comunicação (ASCOM) da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco (UFPE). De caráter quali quantitativo, as ações se pautaram em um estudo taxonômico do acervo, organizando-o por categorias principais e suas hierarquias e através da técnica da digitalização para fins de preservação, se configurando nas etapas básicas de uma pesquisa-ação.Como resultados estimou-se o acervo em 20.571 fotografias impressas que foram organizadas a partir de 5 categorias principais e suas ramificações hierárquicas possibilitadas pela própria estrutura organizacional da UFPE. Espera-se que este trabalho possa servir de auxílio para posteriores estudos, refletindo sobre a importância da organização e preservação de acervos que retratem a memória institucional.It highlights the importance and benefits of preserving institutional memory, through the experience report on the Preservation Project of the photographic collection of the Communications Department (ASCOM) of the Federal University of Pernambuco (UFPE). Quantitative qualitative character, the actions were based on a taxonomic study of the collection, organizing it by main categories and their hierarchies and through the scanning technique for preservation purposes, configured through the basic steps of an action research. As a result estimated the acquis 20,571 printed photos that were organized from 5 main categories and their hierarchical branches made possible by the organizational structure of the UFPE. It is hoped that this work can serve as an aid for further studies, reflecting on the importance of organization and preservation of collections that portray the institutional memory.
