CNPq This máster thesis deals with current representations in the press, official documents and government correspondence circulated in Recife on the issue of housing and family daily life during the period entitled Estado Novo, which occurred between 1937 and 1945, with the national leadership of Getúlio Vargas and In Pernambuco by Agamenon Magalhães. Politicians, doctors, journalists, authors, architects and several other professionals dedicated themselves to exposing the misery and degradation experienced in the mocambos of the capital of Pernambuco and proposed solutions that would cure not only the evils of the dwelling but also of the individual, going from health to character , From body to soul. The faults of action and belief that the subject presented (alcoholism, malandragem, communism, among others) were perceived as being in close relation with the ways of living and what should be experienced in them (comfort, health, good moral formation and Religious) as a counterpoint to what the bad houses provided (deviation of character, body and belief), and it is fundamental to combat the influential agents that misery could impose on the citizen so that he could fulfill his duty to the nation. It is evident in the practices of extinction of the mocambo and other deviant forms of living not only an aesthetic end but mainly an intervention on the ways of being and living in the city according to the political and cultural majoritarian thought of that time.
