Resumen
The main objective of this research is to propose practice techniques to be applied at
the clarinet part of the Duo for clarinet and bassoon by César Guerra-Peixe for the
development of abilities to perform the clarinet. This work will use the manuscript as basis
and offer solutions regarding technique, breathing, and articulation on specific passages of the
piece. The methodology is divided in six parts: (1) bibliographic research that will seek to
understand the esthetic transformations of Guerra-Peixe's (1970a) and of his compositions
during the period from 1950 to 1971; (2) collecting and obtaining data referring the
manuscript (GUERRA-PEIXE, 1970a) and the edition of José Staneck (GUERRA-PEIXE,
1970b); (3) investigation of possible divergences in specific passages to the piece; (4)
definition of the difficulty categories related to fingering technique, breathing and
articulation; (5) selection of excerpts to be practiced in each category; and (6) proposition of
the practice techniques, applied in the clarinet part, for perform of the Duo for clarinet and
bassoon by Guerra-Peixe. The theoretical reference was based on works by Ronkin; Benoit;
Burlingame (1999), Campione (2001), Guy (2004) and Araújo (2016). The practice
techniques mentioned in the theoretical reference for the development of abilities were
applied in specific passages selected from Duo for clarinet and bassoon by Guerra-Peixe
(1970a) which proved to be effective in their intent.
