Music teaching in Brazil is trying to follow the actions towards the inclusion
process in educational environment, in order to permit access for individuals with
impairments to this environment. Music education is one of the fields presenting
notable transformations in relation to its pedagogy and teaching practices. However,
discussion in respect of the inclusion process in music still needs to be extended,
allowing the development of music teaching strategies in Brazil. From this
perspective, in Brazil, braille music is being used to promote music education for
individuals with visual impairment, with the development of vocational training and
the production of didactic material and musical scores. The present study showed a
brief discussion about the context of music education and individuals with visual
impairments. The main tools used to ensure accessibility to music were braille
system and their musical notation. The methodology consisted in a theoretical
reference which deals with the significant aspects of musical education and
individuals with visual impairment. In conclusion, it is important to continue the
discussion in this area of music education in order to strengthen this field of study
and to stimulate the development of new projects and practices.
