Wastewater treatment in the WWTP consists of using some chemical and / or biological steps, in a matter of hours, application conditions for decomposition of organic materials, as well as obtaining at the end of the process a clear liquid process that meets the quality standards required by the CONAMA, an agency that defines environmental norms and requirements to be followed by users of environmental resources. A number of byproducts are generated during treatment, such as: coarse solids, sand, foam sludge and gases. The last item mentioned is an important item in the management of an WWTP, because its prossessing, transportation and final destination may raise the costs, and its treatment is still needed to separate solid matter from the liquid (Centrate). The centrate represents a liquid fraction from the dehydration step of the method performed at the treatment plant, and it is reintroduced into the system and it may affect the treatment process. Some effects were approached in the present study of centrate characterization using pH, COD, BOD5, Suspended Solids and Sedimentable Solids, being analyzed comparatively to the values proposed in the literature. Due to the analyzes performed, large organic loads were detected and are being reintroduced into the system, which may affect the performance of the WWTP, thus the need to use polymers in the sludge dewatering step, as well as open the options for more sustainable destinations to the sludge.
