The Caatinga is a biome with a semi-arid climate that has shallow and stony soil, however, it is relatively fertile. Despite being little studied, it is known that the biome is rich in genetic resources, with some 5000 species in its plant composition, of which 380 of them are endemic. In view of the disordered exploration in the Caatinga and the discovery of vegetable tannins, it makes these actions to be rethought. Cenostigma nordestinum belongs to the Fabaceae family and there is an interest in finding out if the species is a producer of tannins. Thus, this study aims to quantify the vegetable tannins present in different parts of the Catingueira plant (Cenostigma nordestinum). The fine branches, leaves and barks of 02 individuals of C. nordestinum were collected, which are located on the Campus of Macaíba, at the Escola Agrícola de Jundiaí - EAJ to determine the condensed tannins. The materials were collected, put to dry, ground and classified, using what passed through a 14 "mesh" (1.18 mm) sieve and was retained in the 60 "mesh" (0.25 mm) sieve. For the extractions, 20 grams of each material were used, with a duplicate of each. The obtained extract was passed through a 60 mesh (0.25 mm) sieve, made of flannel fabric, filtered through a porosity synthesized glass funnel 2 and completed to a known value of 400mL. Then, the total solids content (TST), Stiasny index (I), condensed tannin content (TTC) and non-tannin content (TNT) were determined. All parts of the plant had tannins, but the bark of the plant showed a higher concentration of condensed tannins (7.52%) and a total solids content (16.75%). It is concluded that all parts of the Catingueira plant presented tannins, with the highest concentration in the bark. It is necessary to carry out more studies with different ages, different periods of collection, and ways of using this tannin.
