Introduction: Due to the increase in life expectancy in the elderly population, it is possible to notice the development of both chronic diseases and diseases related to mental health. It is worth mentioning that there is a high prevalence of Common Mental Disorders (CMD), although not as serious as psychotic disorders, because of their high prevalence (LUCHESSE et al., 2014; YMMAN et al., 2014). Objective: to describe the sociodemographic profile of elderly women with a common mental disorder in the municipality of Santa Cruz / RN. Methods: a descriptive, exploratory, cross - sectional study with a quantitative approach, composed of a sample of 54 elderly women living in the municipality of Santa Cruz / RN. Data were collected through a sociodemographic questionnaire and the Self Report Questionare (SRQ-20), from July to August 2018 and the data were submitted to descriptive analysis. Results: Results were obtained, ranging from 65 to 69 (24.1%) years and 70 to 74 years (24.1%). Non-literate (40.7%), married (50.0%) having Catholic religion (74.1%). The majority are retired (96.3%), farmers (42.6%) and monthly income is 1 to 2 minimum wages (85.2%). Non-smokers (83.3%) and non-alcoholics (98.1%) did not attend elderly groups (85.2%), the majority lived with relatives (94.4%), and a large portion did not present emotional lability during interview (79.6%). Good part presents cardiovascular health problem (66.6%). Conclusion: Finally, it is important to know that the sociodemographic profile of elderly women with common mental disorder can help to create actions to prevent this suffering and stimulate care practices.
