dc.descriptionThe coast of Rio Grande do Norte comprises a range of about 400 km of beautiful beaches, the main motor that drives the Potiguar economy through tourism. The beaches of the RN’s coast, in addition to attracting people from all over the world, are essentially representative structures of coastal dynamics phenomena, fundamentally influenced by sediment transport along the coastline. In recent years, erosion processes have been occurring in a much accentuated way in Ponta Negra Beach, a postcard of the state capital, due to the decrease in the beach strip, a factor closely associated with the reduced contribution of coastal sediments, observed by ARAÚJO (2015). Congruently, GURGEL (2017) carried out a study of the coastal dynamics of the neighboring beach, Barreira do Inferno Beach, and observed a discrete longitudinal transport of sediments. Based on these studies, this work sought to understand the factors that influence the transportation of coastal sediments and through a bibliographical study of the areas of the beaches of Ponta Negra and the Barreira do Inferno, realize a comparative analysis, regarding sediment transport among them, in order to ascertain if there is a possible relation of one over the other, considering the factors that collaborate in the coastal dynamics and how these may possibly affect their morphologies. From the analysis performed, several similarities were observed between the study beaches, such as the predominance in the direction of the winds and the currents being from east and east-southeast, sediment transport in the South-North direction and a great divergence in the volumes of sediments transported, being 700,000 m3/year in Ponta Negra and 50,000 m3/year in the Barreira do Inferno. Due to their locations, coastal dynamics and the comparison of the aspects that influence the longitudinal transport of sediments, it was concluded that there is possibly a strong relation between the study beaches, strengthening the hypothesis that the Barreira do Inferno Beach is a major influencer of the Ponta Negra Beach in terms of sediment dynamics.
dc.descriptionO litoral do Rio Grande do Norte compreende uma faixa de cerca de 400 km de belíssimas praias, principal motor que movimenta a economia potiguar através do turismo. As praias da costa norte-rio-grandense, além de atraírem pessoas de todo o mundo, são, essencialmente, estruturas representativas dos fenômenos provenientes da dinâmica costeira, influenciada fundamentalmente pelo transporte de sedimentos ao longo da linha de costa. Nos últimos anos, processos erosivos vêm ocorrendo de forma bastante acentuada na Praia de Ponta Negra, cartão postal da capital do estado, devido à diminuição da faixa de praia, fator muito associado ao reduzido aporte de sedimentos litorâneos, observado por ARAÚJO (2015). Congruentemente, GURGEL (2017) realizou um estudo da dinâmica costeira da praia vizinha, Praia da Barreira do Inferno, e constatou um discreto transporte longitudinal de sedimentos. Com base nesses estudos, este trabalho buscou compreender os fatores que influenciam o transporte de sedimentos costeiros e por meio de um estudo bibliográfico das áreas das praias de Ponta Negra e da Barreira do Inferno, realizar uma análise comparativa, no que tange o transporte de sedimento, entre elas, de forma a averiguar se há uma possível relação de uma sobre a outra, considerando os fatores que colaboram na dinâmica costeira e como esses podem, possivelmente, afetar suas morfologias. A partir da análise realizada, observaram-se várias semelhanças entre as praias de estudo, como a predominância na direção de ventos e das correntes de Leste e Leste- Sudeste, o transporte de sedimentos no sentido Sul-Norte e uma grande divergência nos volumes de sedimentos transportados, sendo da ordem de 700.000 m3/ano em Ponta Negra e de 50.000 m3/ano na Barreira do Inferno. Devido as suas localizações, suas dinâmicas costeiras e a comparação dos aspectos que influenciam o transporte longitudinal de sedimentos, concluiu-se que há, possivelmente, uma forte relação entre as praias de estudo, fortalecendo a hipótese de que a Praia da Barreira do Inferno é uma grande influenciadora da Praia de Ponta Negra no que diz respeito à dinâmica de sedimentos.
