This paper has the objective of understanding how the English newspaper The Guardian, one of the main papers in the United Kingdom, represents the Covid-19 pandemic in Brazil. The coronavirus outbreak is a global-scale phenomenon that continues to affect countries all around the globe, and now more than ever it’s clear that only an international cooperation can solve the situation. Brazil, considered one of the countries with the worst response to the crisis, was in danger of becoming isolated on the global stage. Therefore, it was proposed an analysis of twelve pieces produced between December 2020 and May 2021, totalising six months, written by the Latin American correspondent, Tom Phillips, using semiotics as the methodology. The results show that the image of Brazil that was built shows a country extremely affected by the pandemic, that, when attempting to recover, find difficulties coming from the federal governmentEste trabalho tem como objetivo entender como o jornal inglês The Guardian, um dos principais veículos do Reino Unido, representa a pandemia da Covid-19 no Brasil. O surto do coronavírus é um fenômeno de escala global que continua a assolar países ao redor do planeta, e mais do que nunca fica claro que apenas uma colaboração internacional pode resolver a situação. O Brasil, considerado um dos países com a pior resposta à crise, corria o risco de ficar isolado no cenário mundial, logo, é importante entender qual a imagem que se cria do país estudando a imprensa estrangeira. Assim, propõe-se uma análise de doze matérias produzidas entre dezembro de 2020 e maio de 2021, totalizando seis meses, pelo correspondente da América Latina, Tom Phillips, utilizando a semiótica greimasiana como base. Chegou-se à conclusão de que a imagem construída do Brasil é de um país extremamente afetado pelo coronavírus que, ao tentar se recuperar, encontra dificuldades advindas do governo federal.
