Resumen
Early childhood education, a step previous to elementary education, offered in Nursery Schools for children between zero and six years old, aims for the child’s full development, considering its physical, psychological, intelectual and social aspects (BRASIL, 2014). Education in values must be performed based on mutual respect, in order to consolidate self-esteem and the building of one’s identity, respect the diversity of cultural expressions, promote team work and build up solidarity. As far as objectives go, the study meant to investigate how the IrmãDulce CMEI (Municipal Nursery Education Center, acronym in Portuguese) teachers, specifically the ones in the level I class, present the values to children between 2 and 3 years old by means of the program “Justice and School”. Regarding results, it was observed that the IrmãDulce CMEI teachers showcase the values - pillars - of the program “Character Matters” using the classroom’s daily experiences, leading to acts of respect, citizenship, carefulness, responsibility, sense of justice and honesty, which are the six pillars of the program. In conclusion, educating for citizenship involves the encouragement of people’s interactions, as well as the discussion of the ethical and political aspects that involve human beings. Such proposal is possible only by the continuous evaluation and renewal of educators’ practices, within a process of continuing education.
