Resumen
The Caatinga Biome has climatic peculiarities that favor some species and disadvantage others, especially those which use water as a resource. Since the annual rainfall of this biome is approximately 500-750 mm, concentrated in three months. Studies aimed at evaluating ecological behaviors or processes in the Caatinga biome, specially in mosquito species should be concerned with the type of trap to be used for better performance. This paper aims to analyze the efficiency of three mosquito collection traps in the Caatinga biome. The three traps chosen were ovitrap, larval trap and Shannon trap. These traps were laid in Flona-Açu for a period of 24 months. The comparison of these traps revealed that the Shannon trap method was most visited with higher value of species richness (20 spp.) and abundance (1,252 specimens), however the Ovitrap and Larvitrap traps were more efficient for collecting species vectors of diseases (e.g. Aedes aegypti and A. albopictus) that inhabit urban and periurban environments. Therefore, the results demonstrate that the Shannon trap is the most efficient method for mosquitoes inventories in Caatinga environments, since this trap was able to capture all species recorded in the study.
