Abstract
In this article, to examine the work as an educational principle in the context of the Integrated High School (EMI), reflecting on the current capitalist society and its emerging need for skilled labor, and at the same time alienated. So we ask: we train students only to meet the needs of capital? Against this conception, we think the EMI as a coping mechanism of educational duality by overcoming class differences, and work as an educational principle integrating human dimensions. We report the first decades of the XXI century in Brazil, when it issued Decree 5.154 / 04 (signaled the possibility of articulation between High School and Professional Education). Finally, we reaffirm the need for an integrated and flexible curriculum that allows a more comprehensive understanding of reality, and the dialogue between the dimensions of work, culture, science, the arts and technology
