dc.description.abstract | Leishmaniasis is considered a worldwide neglected disease caused by the protozoan Leishmania spp, and may have clinical manifestations in mucous membranes, skin or viscera and its main predominance in tropical and underdeveloped countries, such as Brazil. The treatment of the disease is the use of drugs with high adverse effects and often ineffective, such as Glucantime, Amphotericin B and Pentamidines In order to develop a therapeutic alternative, a new substance has been studied, the oil extracted from annatto seed (OU), which is incorporated into Nanostructured Lipid Carriers (CLN's) plus Laponita® clay, thus constituting a release system. Controlled, stable and capable of conveying the oily fraction of Bixa orellana L. The laboratory samples were analyzed for size, polydispersion (PDl), zeta potential and nanoparticle morphology, and exploratory scanning calorimetry (DSC), thermogravimetry (TG), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The results showed that it was possible to obtain the CLNs by the fusion-emulsification method, showing particle size ranging from 127.63 ± 1.10 to 186.63 ± 1.31, polydispersion less than 3 and zeta potential between -16. , 23 mV ± 0.60 and -42.73 mV ± 0.29. Laponita® containing formulations exhibited good stability during shelf life. Thermogravimetric analysis showed that mass loss occurs at temperatures above 200ºC. DSC and XRD analyzes allowed to evaluate the crystalline behavior of nanosystems. The results show a stable system that can be tested as an alternative treatment against cutaneous leishmaniasis. | |
