The capitalist mode of production instigates consumption, encouraging it and practically omitting the negative environmental impacts caused by joint action, the goods industry and the population. In Brazil, it is no different, in addition to being one of the countries that generates the most waste, it is on the list of those who most dispose of it inappropriately. The problems caused by the inefficient management and management of solid waste are considered one of the biggest challenges related to urban sustainability, even after the implementation of the National Solid Waste Policy-PNRS in Brazil, which establishes an environmentally adequate final destination. One of the policy goals establishes the deactivation of dumps, considering that in these environments there is elimination of greenhouse gases, aggravating global warming in addition to other negative impacts. In recent years, the issue of climate change has jumped to the forefront of debates and discussions around the world. One of the most talked about topics is global warming. For a better understanding, two approaches are made, one focusing on solid waste and the other on climate change, exposing the evolution of the themes at a global and national level, the current legislation. Then, a parallel is made between the two themes and shows how the solution and management of solid waste can contribute to the environment and to the nationally determined contributions as proposed by Brazil in the Paris Agreement. Such as sustainable development mechanisms, nationally determined contribution targets and the carbon market within the waste level.
