| dc.description | Introduction: The novel coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) has become an international public health emergency. The disease caused by it, COVID-19, systemically affects people, especially, in relation to the oral environment, as far as there is an epithelial tropism that allows the novel coronavirus to bind to the receptors of the angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE2) present in the cells of the oral mucosa and salivary glands. This fact makes possible a direct and / or indirect relationship between this virus and oral lesions. Objective: To discuss the oral pathological manifestations that affect patients with COVID-19 in the light of articles published between January 2020 and April 2021, highlighting the relationship of the novel coronavirus with such lesions. Methodology: An integrative review based on 20 articles, of which COVID-19 descriptors, oral lesions, oral manifestations and their respective English and Spanish translations were launched as a search strategy in the databases: PubMed, Medline, Lilacs, Scopus and Web of Science, in addition to a manual search. Result: SARSCoV-2 affects patients systemically and is related to oral lesions, although it is not yet possible to be convinced whether directly or indirectly. Conclusion: It is more suggestive that such lesions are linked to factors that were triggered by the presence of SARS-CoV-2 in the organism of infected patients, however much still needs to be studied in order to know the consequences of COVID-19 in the whole organism and its direct and / or indirect action in the oral environment. | |
| dc.description | Introdução: O novo coronavírus (SARS-CoV-2) tornou-se uma emergência de saúde pública internacional. A doença ocasionada por ele, a COVID-19, afeta sistemicamente o indivíduo, inclusive, no que se refere ao meio ambiente bucal, pois há um tropismo epitelial que permite ao novo coronavírus a ligação com os receptores da enzima conversora de angiotensina (ACE2) presentes nas células da mucosa bucal e glândulas salivares. Esse fato torna possível uma relação direta e/ou indireta desse vírus com as lesões bucais. Objetivo: Discutir sobre as manifestações patológicas bucais que acometem pacientes com COVID-19 à luz de artigos publicados entre janeiro de 2020 e abril de 2021, ressaltando a relação do novo coronavírus com tais lesões. Metodologia: Revisão integrativa com base em 20 artigos, dos quais foram lançados como estratégia de busca os descritores COVID-19, lesões bucais, manifestações bucais e suas respectivas traduções em língua inglesa e espanhola nas bases de dados: PubMed, Medline, Lilacs, Scopus e Web of Science, além de uma pesquisa manual. Resultado: SARS-CoV-2 afeta os pacientes sistemicamente e possui relação com as lesões bucais, embora ainda não se possa assegurar de forma convicta se direta ou indiretamente. Conclusão: É mais sugestivo que tais lesões estejam ligadas a fatores que foram desencadeados pela presença de SARS-CoV-2 no organismo dos pacientes infectados, porém muito ainda se precisa estudar para se conhecer as consequências da COVID-19 em todo o organismo e sua ação direta e/ou indireta no meio ambiente bucal. | |
