Resumen
Arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is a commonly used procedure for the correction of tendon injuries in the subacromial space, with possible complication of postoperative shoulder stiffness. The present study aims to evaluate which preoperative factors are significant for the development of stiffness after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair. For this purpose, 83 patients who underwent rotator cuff arthroscopic repair were selected and evaluated after 4 months of surgery and divided into groups with shoulder stiffness and without shoulder stiffness . Then, we evaluated which preoperative conditions were related to the development of stiffness. The total of patients evaluated, 15.7% presented stiffness and 84.3% did not present stiffness. Considering all variables observed, only Type II Diabetes Melittus (T2DM2) presented statistical significance p <0.05 as a risk factor for stiffness development. Therefore, this study concludes that the patient with T2DM is up to 3.63 times more likely to develop shoulder stiffness after arthroscopic rotator cuff repair.
