Resumen
The current situation is permeated by the resurgence of conservatism, regression
of rights, counter-reforms of the state, increase in violence and intensification of exploitation /
oppression to which the working class is subjected in all its diversity, especially in the case of
women, blacks and the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transvestite and transsexual (LGBT) population.
The historical period of capital's structural crisis already imposes, in itself, immense challenges
on the lives of these subjects. However, the moment is also for the advancement of an
ultraconservative and ultraneoliberal extreme right, with strong fascist and violent traits, having
as one example the election of Jair Messias Bolsonaro (without party) as president of Brazil in
2018 and Donald Trump in the United States of America in 2016. The legal, media and
parliamentary coup against President Dilma Rousseff (PT) in 2016 accentuates class disputes
and demonstrates that this world reality reaches the country with great intensity. In the same
context, the data indicate that Brazil is the world champion of violent LGBT deaths, even ahead
of countries in which homosexuality and gender identities are officially prohibited and punished
with the death penalty. In addition, they have registered a significant increase in this violence
in recent years. If we consider its regional distribution, for decades, the Northeast led this
macabre Brazilian ranking. The social and historical formation of this region, indicates some
particularities from the point of view of its insertion in the circuit of the Brazilian unequal
development and of the culture very ingrained in machismo, which creates the figure of the socalled “northeastern male” - with courage as a defining trait and the legitimation of violence as
long as it defends honor. In these lands, theoretically there would be no LGBT, given that they
break with the heteropatriarchal pattern, or the so-called “male”. Thus, our objective in this
work was to analyze the main expressions of violence against the LGBT population in
northeastern Brazil. In methodological terms, we conducted this research: 1 - under the analysis
based on the materialist-historical-dialectic method proposed by Marx; 2 - of qualitative
character; 3 - having as bibliographic and documentary research as source of data, through the
contribution of authors of the field of Marxism, fundamentally, as well as the data produced by
the Gay Group of Bahia on deaths of LGBT in the country, by Dial 100 regarding it concerns
reports on complaints regarding violence against LGBT in Brazil, and the survey of the
Citizenship Map developed by the Brazilian Association of Lesbians, Gays, Bisexuals,
Transvestites, Transsexuals and Intersex (ABGLT);; 4 - with the years of the coup, from 2016
to 2019, as a time frame. As a result, we point out that the main violence against LGBT in the
region has the family and the State as executioners, and violent death, as its predominant
expressions, whether through homicides or suicides, discrimination, physical and psychological
violence, and the violation of rights through the action or omission of the State. As a synthesis,
it is learned that these are times of ultraconservative and violent attack on the humanity of this
population, individually and collectively, as well as on women and blacks. "We are under
attack", it's time to react!
