Objective: To analyze the functionality and quality of sleep of volunteers who were hospitalized in the city of Santa Cruz-RN and whether the number of days of hospitalization influences the sleep and functionality of these volunteers. Methods: This is a cross-sectional, descriptive study conducted with volunteers admitted to the Aluízio Bezerra Regional Hospital. Data collection instruments consisted of volunteers' general and clinical information, the Munich Chronotype Questionnaire (MCTQ), and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) for sleep and ICU functional status scale assessment. for functionality evaluation. The statistical software GraphPad Prism Version 6 for Windows, the Shapiro-Wilk test for normality verification and the Wilcoxon test were used to compare the variables. A significance level of 5% was adopted. Results: The main diagnostic hypothesis of the volunteers was pneumonia, the average hospital stay was 4.0 days and when correlated the functionality did not yield significant results. The difference in sleep duration at home and in the hospital was statistically significant (p = 0.0027), the FSS-ICU correlation with sleep irregularity was statistically significant (p=0.008).Conclusion: The findings show that the quality assessment of functionality and sleep is feasible in the hospital context, that functionality does not change with the days of hospitalization and that sleep changes with the hospitalization.
