Resumen
This article aimed to analyzes the evolution of the competitive environment forces of the Brazilian sugar-ethanol organizations during the years 2000 to 2010. The approach adopted is the conceptual framework of the five competitive forces proposed by Porter. The competitive environment is an important variable to organizations remaining as a research focus for both academics and managers. Regarding the temporal dimension, the research followed the logic of a longitudinal study that identifies the changes occurring in a long term. For data collection, the research used two basic procedures: literature search and document analysis. By searching it was found that the competitive environment of sugarcane organizations evolved despite some crisis. The sector has continued to grow and attract new investment, mainly because: (i) higher government incentives for the production of sugar and ethanol, (ii) environmental issues, and (iii) demand from the flex-fuel vehicles
